The Mission

The Medicine Wheel Early Learning Centre’s mission is to support and incorporate a balanced approach to early learning and life-long healthy growth.  Medicine Wheel Early Learning Centre is sponsored by Métis Calgary Family Services in conjunction with Calgary Board of Education in their Kindergarten Program.
 
Medicine Wheel Early Learning Preschool and Kindergarten focus on academics, respected cultural teachers, Cree/Michif languages, Drumming and Dance, Age appropriate activities with a developmental focus, Ages and Stages questionnaires, Parent Support and Resources, Parent and Family Guided Workshops, Family and Schools Together Program, Parent Advisory Council, Cultural Ceremonies as well as a Parent Liaison Home Visitation component.

Cultural Classroom Supports:  Jigging, Michif language preservation, traditional drumming, oral storytelling, Cree language preservation, Elders weekly visits in the classroom. Staff are trained in: Ages & Stages, Triple P Level 2 Seminars/ Level 3 Discussion Groups, Level 4 Standard & Standard Teen, Level 4 Group / Level 5 Enhanced & Pathways/ Stepping Stones.

The Medicine Wheel Early Learning Programs operate out of Valley View School located at 4105, 26 Ave SE.  Children attend Monday-Thursday.
